How payments work, and setting up your own payment provider

You don't need to configure anything to start accepting payments — every new store can take orders from day one using SalesGit's own secure payment processing, automatically matched to your customer's country and currency. This section explains what's happening behind the scenes and how to take more control of it as you grow.

The background: two ways your store can get paid

  • SalesGit's own payment processing (default, every plan). Every order is collected through SalesGit's infrastructure. A small commission — set by your plan (Free, Pro, or Enterprise) — is deducted automatically, and the rest is credited to your store's wallet for you to withdraw whenever you like. No setup required.
  • Your own payment provider account (Pro and Enterprise only). You connect your own merchant account's secret key in your dashboard's Payment settings. Once connected, orders on that store are processed directly through your own account instead — and SalesGit charges no commission on those sales, since you're paying your provider's fees directly instead.

Connecting your own payment provider

  1. Open a merchant/business account with a payment provider that operates in your country (this is a one-time setup done directly with that provider, outside SalesGit).
  2. Copy the secret/API key it gives you.
  3. In your dashboard, go to Payment and paste it into the "own payment provider key" field. It's masked immediately — nobody, including SalesGit staff, can read it back out once saved.
  4. Every new order from that point on routes through your own account.

This option only appears if your plan supports it. If you don't see it, you're on the Free plan — upgrade from your dashboard's Billing page to unlock it.

Why would I bother connecting my own account?

Two reasons: it removes SalesGit's per-sale commission entirely, and money settles into your own merchant account directly rather than SalesGit's wallet-and-payout flow. For a store doing meaningful volume, the commission savings alone usually pay for the upgrade.
